TYPES OF RED CONTACT LENSES

Currently, the market offers a wide range of red contact lenses made from various materials. However, the two main types of lens materials are:
  • Polyhema

  • Silicone Hydrogel

LENS CLASSICPolyhema Lenses
Polyhema is a traditional type of contact lens made from biocompatible hydrogel material, designed for short-term daily use of around 6–8 hours per day. This material primarily facilitates oxygen exchange through its water content (Water Content), making it gentle and suitable for the eyes.
LENS SILICONE
Silicone Hydrogel Lenses
With Silicone Hydrogel lenses, you no longer need to worry about time limits when wearing them. Thanks to this advanced material, you can comfortably wear the lenses for 12 to 24 hours, unlike regular contact lenses which typically allow only 6 to 8 hours of use.

HOW TO WEAR CONTACT LENSES

The most detailed guide to wearing contact lenses from ophthalmology experts:
  1. Wash your hands thoroughly before handling lenses.

  2. Open the lens case and pour in fresh lens solution.

  3. Open the lens blister pack and place the lens into the case. For first-time use, soak the lens in solution for 4–6 hours to remove any remaining preservatives.

  4. Use eye drops before and after wearing lenses to disinfect and remove dust.

  5. Before applying, gently shake the lens to remove excess solution, then place the lens on your index finger with the edge facing upwards and not sticking to your finger.

  6. Make sure the lens is right side out before inserting.

  7. Use your middle fingers to hold your upper and lower eyelids, look upwards without rolling your eyes, and focus on a fixed point. Gently place the lens onto your eye – it will naturally attach to the iris.

HOW TO REMOVE CONTACT LENSES

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly before removing your lenses.

  2. Before taking out the lenses, apply 1–2 drops of eye drops to each eye to rehydrate the cornea and the contact lens.

  3. If you don’t have a lens remover tool, make sure your hands are clean and avoid letting your nails touch the lens. Only use the soft pads of your fingertips to remove the lens (to avoid scratching your cornea or tearing the lens).

  4. Use your middle fingers to hold open your upper and lower eyelids. Look upward so the lens shifts to the lower part of your eye.

  5. Gently pinch the lens using your index finger and thumb to remove it from your eye. Then, apply eye drops to disinfect your eye.

  6. Rinse the lens thoroughly with fresh lens solution and store it properly in a clean lens case filled with soaking solution.

POST-REMOVAL CARE FOR CONTACT LENSES
  1. After removing the lenses, apply 1-2 drops of eye drops to each eye to rehydrate the cornea. You may also use other eye drops if needed.

  2. After removing the lenses, place them immediately into the lens case with fresh soaking solution. Make a habit of placing your lenses in the correct case marked L (Left) or R (Right) to ensure proper storage. This is particularly important if you have different prescription strengths in each eye.

CONTACT LENS STORAGE

  • If you have different prescriptions in each eye, ensure you place the lens in the correct compartment marked L (Left) or R (Right).

  • When you first remove your lenses from the blister pack or vial, soak them for at least 4 hours in lens solution to remove any preservatives.

  • If you feel irritation or foreign particles in your eyes, immediately replace the soaking solution and thoroughly clean the lenses. You can use a lens cleaning machine, but if you don’t have one, wash your hands, add a little soaking solution into your palm, and gently rub the lens with your fingers to remove any dust.

  • Never clean your lenses with soap, as this will damage them, making them unusable.

  • After each use, replace the soaking solution to keep it clean and clear. If any dirt or dust accumulates, it can cause scratching and discomfort. Even if you don’t use the lenses daily, make sure to change the solution every other day for hygiene.

IMPORTANT TIPS FOR USING CONTACT LENSES
cach-thao-lens

❣️ Carefully review the instructions for using contact lenses, how to wear them safely, how to store them, and especially the duration of use for the product you choose.

❣️ Do not wear contact lenses for too long when you first start:
For beginners, on the first day, you should wear them for no more than 3-4 hours, on the second day 4-5 hours, on the third day 5-6 hours, and from the fourth day, you can wear them for 6-8 hours. Once you're used to them, it’s best to wear the lenses within that timeframe for optimal eye health.

❣️ If you have different prescriptions in each eye, make sure to use the correct lens case marked L (Left) and R (Right) for each side.

❣️ Never use expired contact lenses. Different product lines have specific expiry dates, and some are designed for single-use only. Most users choose lenses that can be worn multiple times, typically lasting from one month to one year.

❣️ Consider reducing your prescription by 0.25 to 0.5 diopters to avoid dizziness when wearing lenses. Be sure to provide your prescription (and astigmatism, if any) for more detailed advice.

❣️ Stop wearing contact lenses immediately if you experience symptoms like red eyes, blurred vision, or discomfort. Visit an eye doctor as soon as possible for a checkup.

❣️ Do not use tap water or purified water to clean, soak, or store contact lenses. Always use a proper contact lens solution for cleaning and storage.

❣️ Do not share contact lenses with anyone to maintain hygiene and eye safety.

❣️ Avoid wearing contact lenses while sleeping or swimming, as water contains bacteria. Wearing lenses while swimming increases the risk of eye infections and corneal damage.

❣️ Do not wear contact lenses if you have eye pain. Contact lenses may exacerbate eye pain when they come into direct contact with your cornea.

❣️ Wear contact lenses before applying makeup to avoid eye makeup or other cosmetic products from sticking to the lenses.

❣️ For people with small eyes, avoid wearing lenses designed to enlarge the iris. Instead, choose lenses with a smaller diameter (DIA) for more comfort.
